Area Police News: Nov. 19, 2012

Daniel R. Finkelstein, 20, of Manhattan was attested by state police on November 11 and charge with speeding and reckless driving after he was stopped on Route 10 in the Town of Kortright for allegedly driving 100 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone.
Police say they charged Finkelstein after he passed a stationary radar unit set up on Route 10.
Finkelstein was arraigned in Town of Kortright Justice Court and released on $750 cash bail to reappear at a later date.

Area Police News: November 12, 2014

On November 4, the Dela­ware County Sheriff’s Department arrested Gerhard Kuenecke, 64, of Hancock on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Andes Justice Court, charging him with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of petit larceny, and one count of second-degree harassment.
Kuenecke was arraigned in Town of Andes Justice Court and remanded to the county jail on $5,000 cash bail. Kuenecke is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Andes Justice Court on November 25 at 1 p.m.

Bovina search for cop killer unfounded

A possible link between an alleged cop killer and a stolen car found October 22 near Bovina turned out to be unfounded.
The stolen 2012 Porsche Cayman was discovered early Wednesday in the Town of Bovina and led to a police alert that Eric Matthew Frein could have stolen the car. The Porsche was reported stolen in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, an area where Frein, 31, had possibly been sighted on Monday.


Area Police News: October 29, 2014

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Vincent Grant, 57, of Pine Hill on October 27 on a criminal summons issued by the Middletown Town Court for the charge of second-degree harassment. He is to appear in the court on October 29 at 9 a.m.


Area Police News: October 22, 2014

An open 911 call originating from State Highway 28 in the Town of Bovina Thursday morning led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Monroe man on a felony Unlawful Imprisonment charge by Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies.


Area Police News: October 8, 2012

An item in the Area Police News section of last week’s Catskill Mountain News incorrectly reported that Cody J. Smolin, 20, of Roxbury was arrested by state police and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. The News regrets the error.
The report should have stated that Smolin was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Roxbury Justice Court on October 9. The incident revolved around a pair of boots that were allegedly stolen from a Margaretville store on September 25.


Area Police News: October 1, 2012

A Downsville man was arrested on September 23 by Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with DWI and numerous additional offenses after he fled from the scene of an accident in the Town of Andes.
Ethan S. Bass, 20, was charged with misdemeanor DWI, refusal to take a breath test, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, parking in the roadway and failure to keep right. 


Area Police News: September 24, 2014

Early Tuesday morning, September 23, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies seized a quantity of drugs and arrested and charged an Ulster County probationer with a felony weapon possession charge after investigating suspicious, illegally parked vehicles on Church Street in Arkville.
Francis J. Smith, 35, of Kingston, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony.

Area Police News: Sept. 17, 2012

Steven A. Karg, 29, of Grand Gorge was arrested by state police on September 8 and charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree menacing after he allegedly entered a neighbor’s home brandishing a four-inch knife.
Police say the unidentified homeowner pushed Karg out onto the front lawn where a fight ensued. Both men suffered minor injuries and were evaluated by Grand Gorge EMS who were called to the scene.


Area Police News: September 10, 2012

Louis A. Volpe, 24, of Nes­conset was arrested by state police on September 4 and charg­ed with third-degree and fifth-degree criminal possession of stol­en property and second-degree criminal trespass in connection with a stolen ATV from a home on Jump Brook Road in the Town of Roxbury.
State police say they were called to the scene by Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson who allegedly caught Volpe at the scene with the ATV in the bed of his pickup. Other household items were also recovered at the scene.
