MCS Blue Devils soccer opens with a win

Cody FronckowiakCody FronckowiakThe Margaretville Blue Devils rode two goals by Cody Fronckowiak, including one goal at 1 minute, 47 seconds into sudden-victory overtime, and one goal by Marshall Bouton, to a 3-2 overtime season-opening win against the visiting Delhi Bulldogs Tuesday (8-31) afternoon.

Bouton’s goal, off an assist from Ian Williams, tied the non-league game at 2-2 with 5:45 left to play. Margaretville goalkeeper Mitchell Hull made 10 saves.

The Margaretville Blue Devils girls’ soccer team opened their season on the road in Delhi Tuesday (8-31) afternoon with a 2-1 non-league loss to the host Lady Bulldogs. Tess Svoboda found the nets for the Blue Devils, who outshot Delhi 16-11.

Elderly Phoenicia couple killed in tractor-trailer accident

An elderly Phoenicia couple was killed Thursday on Route 28 in Boiceville when their car was hit from behind by a tractor and trailer driven by a New Kingston man.

Joyce St. George to receive Citizenship Award

Joyce St. GeorgeJoyce St. GeorgeMargaretville — The Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center Board of Directors has selected Joyce St. George of New Kingston to receive  the Keene A. Roadman Hospital Citizenship Award. The award will be presented on October 16 at the Harvest Moon Ball which is sponsored by the Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center.

Ms. St. George has served as a member of the Margaretville Hospital Board and Mountainside Residential Care Center, and held the position of board chair from 2005-2007.


Roxbury Site Plan Review Law under consideration

A proposed Site Plan Review Law for the Town of Roxbury will be the subject of a public hearing at the town hall on Monday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. The Site Plan Review Law has been modified from a version that was voted down by the board several years ago.

Anti-gas drilling rally September 8 in Delhi

Delhi — A group of Delaware County residents will hold an anti-gas drilling rally and march in Delhi on Wednesday, September 8 from 5-6 p.m. in front of the Delaware County Office Building on Courthouse Square before and during the county board of supervisors’ monthly meeting there. 


Area school districts prepping for new year

Final preparations are underway at area schools as they prepare for the opening of a new academic year.

Margaretville
The first day of classes at Margaretville Central School is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 7 with a full class schedule.

MCS teachers will report on September 1 for Superintendent's Conference Day One, where they will be trained on a new Student Management System called PowerSchool. On September 2, Superintendent’s Conference Day 2 will be held for all teachers and staff to review final preparations for the first day of school.
