Relay for Life fund-raiser set at SUNY Delhi

It’s not too late to get involved in the Delaware County Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s community based fund-raiser. Individuals interested in participating in the Sixth Annual Delaware County American Cancer Society Relay for Life are invited to an evening of food, fun and information on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at SUNY Delhi’s Alumni Hall. The event will begin at 6 p.m. An alternate snow date has been set for Thursday, Jan. 31, same place, same time.
The kick-off event is an opportunity to learn how you can get involved in this amazing county-wide event to raise money for research and education in the fight against cancer. Kick-Off is also designed as the first formal step to motivate veteran participants and organizing committee members toward their goal of the Most Successful Relay Yet! The event promises to inspire, motivate and inform. You will have an opportunity to mingle, get all of your questions answered and define your special role as a participant in this year’s Relay for Life.
The 2008 Relay will be held at the American Legion Field in Delhi on Friday, April 25 and go through the night until Saturday morning April 26.
Relay for Life is a unique American Cancer Society event designed to raise funds in support of cancer research, education and patient services. The success of Relay for Life in Delaware County is driven by support from the community. Relay for Life chairpersons, Christina Viafore and Amy Beveridge, and their organizing committee are already hard at work in preparation for the upcoming Relay. Last year more than 50 fund-raising teams representing businesses, organizations and families throughout central Delaware County raised over $150,000 to help in the fight against cancer.
On April 25 a walking path will be created at the American Legion Field for members of the fund-raising teams to walk through the night as part of their fund-raising effort. The public is welcome to this emotion laden festival that provides our community with the opportunity to celebrate the victories in the cancer struggle. Remember those whose lives have been lost and fight back against this insidious predator.
Features of the event are a special lap for cancer survivors and their caregivers followed by a reception in their honor, an education tent open to the public and a variety of entertainment.
