Walter Griffin

Walter D. Griffin, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at Fox Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born in Halcottsville on October 25, 1930, the son of William E. and Ethel Dean Griffin.
He graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1947.
Walt served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1954.
He married Eleanor Petts in 1954 at the Presbyterian Church, in McCellantown, PA.
He moved to Grand Gorge in 1957.
He received his bachelor’s in education in 1957 from Oneonta State and his master’s in guidance from Oneonta State in 1965.
Walt taught fifth and sixth grade at Stamford Central School for three years and Jr. High social studies for five years at Stamford Central School. He was guidance counselor at Roxbury Central School until he retired in September 1987.
He was a member of Earl B. Dudley American Legion Post No. 686 for 52 years. Hobbies for Walt were computers, fishing and gardening.
Walt was a very devoted husband and father, his family always came first.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Griffin, Grand Gorge; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and John Galloway; sons and daughters-in-law, Lance and Nancy Griffin, Hanover, PA, Walter Jr. and Mary Griffin, Bethesda, MD and Steven and Ellen Griffin, Kensington, MD. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Matthew and Steven Galloway, William, Hannah, Jane and Jake Griffin; two sisters, Marie Numann, Florida and Ruth Cross, Arizona; brothers-in-law, Ken Kellerhouse Jr., Guy Numann, Donald Cross and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Kellerhouse and a brother, William E. Griffin Jr.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury with Rev. Richard A. Dykstra, officiating.
Burial is in Halcottsville Cemetery.
Donations in his name may be made to the Grand Gorge Ambulance Fund.
Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
