Joyce Mansheffer

Joyce L. Mansheffer, 79, of 61 Swart Street, Margaretville, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at O’Connor Hospital, Delhi.
She was born in Delhi on October 2, 1908, the daughter of Michael and Aileen Fairbairn Gabriel.
She graduated from Delaware Academy and Central School, Delhi.
She married LeRoy W. Mansheffer on March 21, 1947 at St. James Episcopal Church, Lake Delaware.
Joyce worked at several area businesses including the Dress Shop in Delhi as a receptionist, in a TV Repair Shop in Margaretville, at the coin operated laundry, at Delaware Academy and Central School as a cafeteria aide and wrote for the Catskill Mountain News and The Walton Reporter.
She enjoyed baking, playing cards and was a former president of the Pinochle Club in Margaretville for many years and was an avid reader of mysteries and cookbooks.
Joyce was baptized, confirmed and married at St. James Episcopal Church. She was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Margaretville, where she taught religious education for many years, and also was a member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club and served as president in 2006. At one time Joyce was a delegate to the County Senior Citizens Club.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Mansheffer, Margaretville; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Bill Smith; brothers-in law, David, Charles and Harold Mansheffer and a sister-in-law, Delia Kipp. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy Mansheffer April 19, 1999.
There was a Requiem Mass celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3 at St. James Episcopal Church, Lake Delaware with Rev. Patrick Hunt officiating.
Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi at a later date.
Donations in her name may be made to American Diabetes Society or Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Delhi, NY 13753.
