Love songs are in the air in Roxbury Saturday

You can get close to your sweetie again this Valentine’s Saturday with a romantic surrey ride through picturesque Roxbury in an elegant horse drawn brougham, just as lovebirds did in the good old days. Then cozy up in Public Lounge to the “sweetest sounds” of Richard Rodgers’ love songs, truffles and champagne.
On Saturday, Feb. 16, Roxbury’s elegant, red-velvet lined surrey will depart every half-hour by reservation only, from 3 to 9 p.m.  Be sure to reserve your spot by tomorrow by calling 607 326-3722.
Your romantic evening can begin at the relaxing and intimate Public Lounge on Bridge Street in Roxbury, which will feature Patricia Dell and Kent Brown from 7 p.m., singing the love songs of Richard Rodgers. The Public will offer its full menu a la carte that evening and will also provide an elegant dessert of gourmet chocolate truffles and Freixinet champagne, all set in the candlelit ambience of the Public Lounge’s cozy, colorful interior. You and your sweetie can enjoy an all-inclusive dinner and surrey ride package for two for $75 inclusive.
“We are thrilled to have Patricia and Kent bring such a classic touch of romance to our Valentine’s celebration,” said Public’s proprietor, Jill Healy. “We love this music and we find that our customers of every generation do too. We hope that intimate, live music performances will be a regular feature of Public life.”
No reservations are required for dinner at the Public that Saturday, which will be available from 5 to 9 p.m. From 7 p.m., Dell and Brown will be performing at Public for a $5 cover.
Reservations are a must for the half-hour surrey rides (call the Roxbury Parks department at 607 326-3722). A combined surrey ride and Public dinner special (including truffles and champagne) is offered for $75, which also includes the evening’s musical entertainment.
