Women's events, hunter safety on Sporting Weekend schedule

 

A Spring Sporting Weekend at Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville from Friday, April 18 to Sunday, April 20 will include a two-day Hunter Safety Course as well “Women in the Outdoors” programming.

Activities on Saturday will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon. The NYS Hunter Safety Course takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and attendance is required both days.  Advance registration is required for the Hunter Safety Course.

Spring Sporting Weekend events will include: fly fishing demonstrations, a wildlife hike, orienteering, tours of Frost Valley’s maple sugar house and instruction on the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for outdoor recreation and sporting outings.

Also featured will be a “Women in the Outdoors” program all day on Saturday. This event is sponsored by Sullivan County Longbeards, the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Included in this event will be: turkey calling lessons, gun safety instruction, a fly-fishing seminar and map and compass skills training. A certified pistol instructor will conduct a pistol and skeet shoot. All of these events are free.

Day guests must sign in at the Administration building (first on right at main entrance) before participating in the Spring Sporting Weekend. Admission is free.
