Willis Marks chosen as district Rotarian of the month


Margaretville —  Rotarian and Margaretville resident Willis Robert Marks has been named Rotarian of the Month for October in Rotary District 7170.
Marks was recently presented with a certificate that noted his service in the U.S. Army and his service to his home community. It read:
“Whereas, he served in the U.S. Army, where he enlisted on September 2nd, 1942, was discharged on October 15th, 1945 and returned home on October 22nd; and
Whereas, while serving in the Army, he was sent to England in August 1943, landed on Utah Beach June 13th, 1944 with the Chemical Warfare Motor Company; was transferred to the 90th Infantry Division in December 1944 where he was Infantry Squad Leader for I Company; and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service; and
Whereas he has been and American Legion member for 68 years; serving as Post Commander, Delaware County Commander and 6th District Commander; and
Whereas, he was among the first group of local citizens to initiate and serve on the Margaretville Memorial Hospital Ambulance Squad; and
Whereas, he served as President and member of the MCS Parent-Teacher Group; and
Whereas, he was an active member of the Margaretville Methodist Church where he was Lay Leader for more that 15 years and Lay Speaker for more than 20 years; and
Whereas, he was a longtime member of the Margaretville Fire Department; and
Whereas, he has been a Rotarian for 58 years where he was President for two separate terms and received the high honor of becoming a Paul Harris Fellow;
Therefore, the Rotary Club of Margaretville recognizes and thanks him for a lifetime of service to mankind, his nation and his community where he has exemplified the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and nominates him to be Rotarian of the Month.”
