William J. Fitzgerald, 84, of Rio Rancho, NM, and formerly of Oliverea, died on July 31, 2013.
William was the husband of Caroline Fitzgerald, who died in 1980, and the husband of surviving spouse, Patricia Fitzgerald, who still resides in New Mexico.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea 1950 and 1951. He was a member of the Big Indian - Oliverea Volunteer Fire Department and a retired Deputy Warden of the New York City Department of Corrections. William was the owner of the Oliverea Grocery Store from 1974 to 1982.
His second wife, Patricia Fitzgerald and sons, Edward, William, and James survive him.
The Fitzgerald family is planning a memorial service on Monday, Aug. 26 beginning with a 1 p.m. luncheon at the Slide Mountain Forest House, Oliverea Road, Oliverea (845-254-5365), followed by a 3 p.m. committal ceremony at the Oliverea Cemetery, McKinley Hollow Road, Oliverea. Family and friends will then gather from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Peekamoose Restaurant, Route 28, Big Indian (845 254-6500). Friends needing more information or travel directions may call 917 304-
