‘Whet Paint’ on the easel

Roxbury — Whet Paint, The Roxbury Arts Group’s (RAG) annual and wildly popular fund-raiser has added some new twists and surprises this year. Re-imagined as Whet Paint/ Inside Out, RAG hopes to emphasize the “plein air” aspect of painting in the open air that has always been at the heart of the event.

Participating artists will have six days in which to capture that perfect light within the Catskills at the ideal time of day. They will register and receive their canvases on Saturday, Aug. 28 at a special artists’ reception. Finished works will be delivered to RAG no later than Friday afternoon, Sept. 3, in readiness for the exhibit and silent auction open to the public on Sept. 4. Many RAG supporters have offered their homes, barns, and fabulous vistas as venues for the artists to paint.

Among them are the Feldman home in Andes, the Riordan home in Halcottsville, the Margolis home in New Kingston, the Jamieson home in Treadwell, the Michael Kudish Natural History Preserve, the Old School Baptist Church in the Denver Valley and Goldenheart Unidiversity Farm in Stamford and the Vega home in Fleischmanns. Artists who register for Whet Paint / Inside Out will receive a list of available venues. Anyone who would like to watch the artists at work should call the RAG office at 607 326-7908 for information about sites.
