We need our police

To The Editor:
I am writing this letter in response to the statements made by a councilman at the Shandaken Town Board meeting in June.

He stated that the Shandaken Police Department was overstaffed. I do not agree.
There is a need for the number of police we currently have. This is one of the main reasons for our low crime rate.

They also patrol our areas and know our residents and nonresidents, and can foresee any problems that may occur.

He voted against me when I took over as town building inspector, as this was a personal issue. Now we have similar circumstances. If he is concerned with our budget, why did he think most of the building permits and fees were not necessary?

Our town would be at a loss if we did not have a fully staffed police department.
