‘Virtue’s Reward’ melodrama plays Friday in Bovina
The Bovina Public Library is presenting the continuing story of 19th-Century Bovina and its virtuous (and some not so virtuous) inhabitants in Brushland Melodrama Part 3: “Virtues’ Reward!” this coming Friday, July 16 at 7 and 8 p.m.
The show will be presented at the Bovina Town Hall on Main Street with a brand new cast of characters featuring Julian Richards as the villainous Sneezy Jeepers, Gary Mayer as Brawn LaFever, a virtuous Bovina farmer, Monica Liddle as Pansy Flowers, a virtuous Bovina widow, Ally Heavey as Aster Flowers, her daughter, Judy Gage as Paris Hilson, a woman of dubious character, and Tim Bray as the handsome bearded stranger who brings change to the lives of all involved. Noah Dougherty will also be appearing as a mysterious, and mute, orphan and the Catskill Mountain News’ own John Bernhardt will be reprising his role as Rev. Doright Huggable, a 19th-Century pastor of the Bovina UP Church.
The play, suitable for all ages, was written and is being directed by Bovina Librarian and former NY stage and television actress Marjorie Miller.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children seven years old and up. Children under 7 may see the show for free. Tickets can be purchased the night of the performance at the Bovina Town Hall on a first come, first served basis. All proceeds will benefit the Bovina Public Library. The following day, July 17, is Bovina Day with townwide lawn sales beginning at 9 a.m. during which time the library continues its fund-raising efforts with a combined book and glassware sale until 2 p.m.
