Following a 911 call, New York State Police in Kingston along with the Town of Shandaken Police responded to a domestic dispute at Silver Hollow Cabins on Route 214 in Phoenicia Monday morning.
Police say they were responding to a report that a 20-year-old female was reportedly assaulted in one of the cabins and forcefully dragged off into the woods. A search was conducted with K-9 units and a state police helicopter.
After approximately two hours, the victim and a suspect were located in a wooded area approximately one-half mile from the scene. The victim was transported to Kingston Hospital by the Shandaken Rescue Squad and the suspect, identified as Desmond McCobb, age 27, who is homeless, was taken into custody.
McCobb was subsequently charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, first-degree aggravated sexual abuse and first-degree criminal contempt.
After further investigation a second subject, identified as John Oakley, 45, of 648 Route 214, Phoenicia, was also arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment and third-degree sexual abuse. Sources say that Oakley was the tenant who rented the cabin where the attack took place.
Police said the victim had an order of protection against McCobb.
McCobb and Oakley are being processed and were arraigned Tuesday night. State police were also assisted by the Town of Woodstock Police at the scene.
On Tuesday morning, Oakley was at the scene removing his belongings from the cottage where the incident took place.
