Thomas W. Burke, 75, of county Route 11, Prattsville died Thursday morning, January 30, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson following a recent procedure.
He was a native and lifelong Catskill Mountain area resident. He was born February 26, 1938, son of the late Thomas and Dorothy Smith Burke Sr.
He was a skilled carpenter and builder who worked his whole life in construction. Locally, he had worked many years at Bobby Jones’ Baby Barns in Shandaken. He had a great appreciation for nature, and enjoyed such activities as hunting, fishing, and camping. He shared his love, and taught life lessons to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Most recently, a favorite past time of his was to ride his John Deere tractor mowing the lawn. He was aptly described as “a Jack-of-all trades and a master of all.”
Surviving are his three daughters, Malissa Post, Mashell Burke, and Heather Burke; two sons, Raymond and Bruce Burke and a sister, Melody Lampert. Seventeen grandchildren and five great grand children also survive. He was predeceased by his wife, Flossie Rotella Burke in 2011.
Friends were received on Sunday, Feb. 2 at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
