Theme weekends for scouts, youths set at Frost Valley

Claryville — Special theme weekends for Girl Scouts, Brownies and Youth Groups are planned this fall in the heart of the Catskill Mountain High Peaks at Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville.
Due to popular demand, Frost Valley has added a second Adventure Badge Weekend for Friday through Sunday, Nov. 7-9. This weekend is geared toward Juniors, Cadets and Seniors and has been scheduled because the Nov. 14-16 Adventure Badge Weekend was quickly filled to capacity.
The Girl Scout Badge Theme Weekend features value pricing of $95 that includes lodging, meals and programming.
The tentative badgework schedule event includes: a climbing tower, Project Adventure/Teambuilding classes, a cable bridge hike, arts and crafts classes, a low ropes class, a high ropes element, knot tying classes, map and compass skills, astronomy, campfire, Project Adventure or Trust Classes, a night hike and a “Careers in Adventure/Recreation” seminar.
Also new at Frost Valley is a Brownies “Try-It!” Weekend planned for Friday-Sunday, Dec. 12-14.
This special theme weekend for Brownies is value priced at $95 per person. Brownie Try-it activities include: programs that will help Scouts achieve the “Eat Right, Stay Healthy Try It,” and the “My Body Try-It.” The weekend will also include nature hikes, a chance to climb Frost Valley’s unique Y-shaped climbing tower, arts and crafts, sports and games, campfire and songs, and an educational Raptor Center tour.
Frost Valley’s second Youth Group Weekend is set for Friday-Sunday, Dec. 5-7.
The Youth Group Weekend also features special pricing of $95 per person that covers all lodging and meals for the entire visit. The theme weekend is open to youths aged 12-18.
This event allows youth groups from upstate and downstate to enjoy a weekend of fun and personal growth. All youth group programs are welcome to participate.
After check-in, Friday evening gets underway with a series of games and “ice-breakers” that provide an opportunity for groups to get to know one another.
This spirit of camaraderie will be enhanced throughout the weekend as visitors enjoy a series of fun and sometimes challenging programs. Among the options will be: rock climbing, a low ropes course, archery, hiking, an array of arts and crafts and many other activities.
On Saturday evening the groups take part in an all-camp event designed to reinforce the weekend’s theme.
While the Youth Group Weekend is not an official Scouting event, older Girl Scouts (12 and up) are welcome to participate and learn many of the same skills that they would have been working on during the earlier theme weekends.
The schedule of events is weather dependent and subject to change for these theme weekends. Day rates are also available for each event, please call for pricing.
As part of its Mission, Frost Valley strives to embody the following core values: caring, diversity, honesty, inclusiveness, respect, responsibility, stewardship and community.
