Sydney Smith Jr.
Sydney D. Smith Jr., 80, of Pine Hill, left this world behind on May 3, 2013 to join his beloved wife Alice in “Paradise.” Sydney was a deeply religious man who dedicated his life to God and church.
Sydney grew up in Ridgefield, NJ. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Sydney met and married Alice Heym, the love of his life, in 1954. They moved to Hillsdale, NJ where they raised their four children; Alyson Lundy, Susan Skowronski, Stacey Pender, and Mark Smith.
Sydney and Alice moved to Pine Hill shortly before he retired. He was very active with the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church where he was a lay speaker.
He is survived by his four children; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard and his wife Polly Greenhalgh, and George and his wife Barbara Smith, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him so very much.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Smith.
Sydney was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He had a kind and gentle spirit that will be missed.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 9, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Margaretville Methodist Church. Rev. Ralph Darmstadt and Rev. Larry Dunlap will officiate.
Burial will follow the funeral service in the Bedell Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
