Students' art project decorates market
Halcottsville — Students from seven area schools produced large panels of art this year to help decorate the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market. The back wall of the market’s pavilion is now adorned with a series of murals that depict various farmers’ market themes.
The works were a cooperative venture with art teachers from the schools. Teachers leading the project were Amy Royal from Roxbury, Sharon Tucker from Andes, Tom Rapin from Margaretville, Brian Rolfe from Delhi, Ann Gorel from South Kortright, Dyan Jansen from Stamford and Elizabeth Estelle from the Stamford Home School Group.
These instructors led many of their art students through the project which transforms a blank space into a series of fun, colorful murals depicting rural scenes.
The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market is held rain or shine each Saturday from mid-May through Columbus Day weekend. The market is located at the historic Round Barn on Route 30 near the Delaware County hamlet of Halcottsville, in the central Catskill Mountains.
The market is five miles north of Margaretville / Arkville and eight miles south of Roxbury. TInformation: 845 586-3326.
