STS getting ready for "The Miser"

Phoenicia — The Shandaken Theatrical Society presents Moliere’s “The Miser” on November 13, 14, 15 and 20, 21, 22. You won’t want to miss Miles Malleson’s modern adaptation of Moliere’s classic comedy in which youthful optimism and love triumph over suspicion and greed. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., Sunday matinees are at 4 p.m. at STS Playhouse, 10 Church Street, Phoenicia.
The troupe of local actors have endeavored to keep the performance in the Commedia Dell’Arte tradition the “The Miser” was built on, while adding some fresh modern bits and twists under the direction of Amy Wallace, Artistic Director of STS.  The sets, designed by Alan Shevlo, are an unexpected take on Italian Opera Forced Perspective set design.  They are complimented by hyper-theatrical costumes and a fantastical makeup design.  All these elements combine to form a delightfully over-the-top night of theatre.
With this production STS is launching its new Community Sponsorship Program.  Local businesses including Heartsbend Landscaping, Reaching Roots Studios, Basch & Keegan, and Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty, have all made generous donations towards production costs.   These donations have allowed STS’s design team to stretch their creative legs a bit and bring a little glamour to Phoenicia.
