Stone Schoolhouse to feature Civil War program September 20
Learn about the Civil War Battle of Chickamauga at the Stone School House Annual Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 20. The traveling historian, Charles Slater of Margaretville, will share a program on the most significant Union defeat of the Civil War which halted the Union advance at Chattanooga, Tenn. The battle was the most costly battle in the western theatre of the American Civil War claiming over 34,000 causalities of Union and Confederate soldiers. Slater’s great-grandfather fought in this battle, September 1864 – 145 years ago. There may be a surprise visit by General Robert E. Lee and President Abraham Lincoln.
The annual meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by a covered dish luncheon at noon. The Civil War Presentation will be at 12:30 p.m.
