Skate park volunteers needed

The Margaretville Board of Trustees is seeking volunteers to oversee the skateboard park that is located in the Binnekill Square parking lot.
The park was created eight years ago by a group of skateboard enthusiasts who were seeking a safe place to enjoy the sport. A number of parents and other interested volunteers spent time cleaning up a section at the end of the public parking lot that was designated for the skate park. Equipment for the park was then purchased through fund-raising events and donations.
Since the park’s creation in 2000, most of the original skaters have grown up and/or moved from the area. As a result, the supervision of the park has fallen entirely upon Village of Margaretville employees.
Mayor Bill Stanton indicated that the village would like to find a group of people interested in overseeing upkeep of the park. Anyone interested in forming a committee or donating some time to help oversee the skate park should contact the village clerk’s office at 845 586-4418.
