Six experts in the field lead quilting weekend

Woodstock resident Bob Silverman will be the featured presenter when Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville hosts its 12th annual Fall Quilting Weekend from Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23. Joining Bob will be five returning instructors, Kris Driessen, Ann Foland, Sherry Sega, Katharina Litchman and Kathleen Davies.
Classes offered at the Frost Valley Fall Quilting Weekend will include: Bob Silverman teaching a paper-pieced patter designed by Betty Blais. Kris Driessen creating a mystery quilt in a class titled Spit Spot. Ann Foland’s class is called Triple Irish Chain, a spectacular example of strip piecing
Sherry Sega is another popular instructor at Frost Valley and her class will teach participants how to make purses, wallets or other small gift items for the holidays. Katharina Litchman will teach Art Quilting for Beginners in which class members create their own design. Kathleen Davies’ class will feature the technique known as stained glass appliqué.
A special attraction at this year’s quilting weekend will be a mini workshop on hand quilting. This session was added after numerous requests from recent participants.
Participants spend the weekend immersed in the quilting classes of their choice and also have ample time to relax in the splendor of the Catskill Mountain high peaks. An optional morning walk will get things underway on Saturday, followed by a full day of workshops. Quilters have the option of attending an evening program and there will also be free time for sewing.
The activities on Sunday begin with an optional walk and breakfast, with quilting workshops following. The traditional “show and tell” period follows after lunch.
Quilters of all ages and abilities are welcome at the Fall Quilting Weekend. In addition to the workshops, vendors will have their booths available offering a variety of quilt-related products. The popular “fabric swap” will also be part of the fun.
The special package includes all meals and lodging for the weekend. A day rate is available for commuters. Registration is limited to 65 so early registration is encouraged.
