Shirley A. Mead, 67, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. She was a resident of Mountainside Residential Care Center for the past eight months.
She was born July 17, 1941, in Arkville, the daughter of the late George and Helen (York) Decker.
Shirley graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1960.
She worked at Audio Sears, and Murray’s Hotel in her earlier years.
Although her journey through life was filled with many tragedies and suffering, she was a protector to all those near and dear to her from every hurt or fear.
Shirley took up her cross and was a follower of Jesus. She loved the Lord. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, George and Helen Decker, devoted wife, mother, sister and friend.
She loved to dance, and we know she will be dancing with the angels in heaven.
Surviving are a son, Donald Mead Jr., Roxbury; one daughter, Helen Ann Mead, Edmeston; two brothers, William York, Prescott, Mich. and Robert Decker, Palm Bay, Fla; five sisters, Betty Little, Andes, Irene Decker, Margaretville, Mary Lou Moore, Westport, Beverly Banks, Delhi and Marie Mead, Colonie; five grandchildren, several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and cousins; and two aunts, Pauline Wallace, Dyersburg, Tenn. and Marie Green, Robinson Terrace, Stamford
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Mead in 1993.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. James J. McDevitt officiating.
Burial is in the Margaretville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Shirley’s name can be sent to Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville and Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville, at a later date in memory of Shirley.
