Shandaken Day set for Saturday
Shandaken Goes Greener is the theme for this year’s celebration at the site of future Catskill Interpretive Center on the Department of Environmental conservation Day Use Area on Route 28 in Mt. Tremper. Family fun, games, arts and crafts, delicious food and good times will be on hand on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
For starters, there will be live music all daylong by local musicians, capped off at 5:30 p.m., with square dancing to Earl Pardini and the Slide Mountain String Band. There will be a challenging Rope Obstacle Course, set up by Catskill Outback Adventures. The Phoenicia Library will recycle books at their booth, the M.F. Whitney Fire Company will dish out mouth-watering food and a water balloon toss will help to cool you off. Pose for a photo with one of the stars of the film “Sex in The City.” (She didn’t have a speaking part, more like a barking role, and her name is Gidget). Gidget will appear courtesy of the Friends of Snuffy, who will also put on an animal Fashion Show that day.
A dunking booth will cool off some of the burning oratory of our local politicians, and a watermelon-eating contest should show just how green some of us can turn. More games and vendors are being added daily, so come, bring the kids and have a great time. For information call town hall at 845 688-7165.
