Seymour “Shimmy” Kaplan. Beloved husband, father, and grandpa. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on February 7, 1928, and passed away in Miami, FL, on Sunday, July 8, 2012, surrounded by family.
Seymour is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon (Davis) Kaplan, and their four children, James (Ellen), Beth (David), Dana (Stephen), and Joshua (Alia), as well as all five of his (favorite) grandchildren: Kevin, Kara, Melissa, Dunahay, and Lily. He is also survived by his devoted sister and a large extended family.
Seymour served proudly in the United States Navy, and then spent his career running a variety of restaurants, including those at the Playboy Resort in Great Gorge, NJ, the World Trade Center in Manhattan, and Tony Roma’s in both California and Florida. He will be greatly missed by all those who were charmed by his subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) wit.
He will be buried in his chosen home of Fleischmanns, NY.
A graveside service will be held at the Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery on Sunday, July 15 at 11a.m. A small reception will follow at the family property.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Seymour’s memory to Congregation B’nai Israel.
