Roxbury planning Sidewalk Festival for July 4

Roxbury — The annual Roxbury Sidewalk Festival, on Saturday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is a daylong block party, with vendors and tag sales lining the shady Main Street and vintage baseball afoot in Kirkside Park, along with children’s fun, food galore and new this year: your chance to win big prizes aboard the Stimulus Surrey.
Organizers say the sidewalk festival is a perfect destination for families on July 4 because it offers something for everyone: mom and dad can shop the antiques, collectibles, and tag sales offered by dozens of vendors. The whole family will relish the noontime vintage baseball showdown between the Roxbury Nine and the Bovina Dairymen, who are making a strong showing in their rookie season. Children can enjoy face painting and balloon animals.
To get you in the patriotic mood, the homegrown Roxbury Brass will be bringing on the Sousa marches and spirit-rousing sound of horns, with the Tisch Family Trio offering their melodious blend of flute, clarinet and strings. Watching the Schoharie Valley Cloggers stomping up the ruffles will work up your appetite for traditional chicken barbeque, ice cream, and ballpark fare.
Hop aboard the horse-drawn surrey for an elegant, relaxing ride up Main Street, but be prepared! You may be one of the lucky passengers to hear “You’re now aboard the Stimulus Surrey!” You’ll have the chance to answer questions (just like “Cash Cab!”) and win prizes. The first questions are easy and the winnings modest, but if you make it all the way to Bridge Street with the right answers you will have won some valuable fun, like a complete dinner for two at Public Restaurant & Lounge.
If you’d like more information about the Sidewalk Festival or you’d like to participate as a vendor, visit (there’s a vendor sign-up form there as well) or call 607 326-3722.
