Riedl to receive Citzenship Award at Harvest Moon Ball
Margaretville — John Riedl will receive the Keene A. Roadman Hospital Citizen of the Year Award at this fall’s Harvest Moon Ball on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The award will be presented when the Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center holds the ball on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Hanah Mountain Resort.
Mr. Riedl spent a long career in education. He retired in 2008, having worked the previous seven years as superintendent at Margaretville Central School (MCS).
Mr. Riedl, a Conesville native, has been a very active auxiliary volunteer for nearly a decade, getting his start with the organization when it embarked on an ambitious campaign to sign up 1,000 members. Shortly after his retirement, Mr. Riedl was asked if he’d be interested in assisting the group’s Wellness Committee. He was named chair of the Wellness Committee in 2008 and continues in this roll.
As Wellness Committee chair, Mr. Riedl has been instrumental in helping the auxiliary support two annual hospital-sponsored Health Fairs, producing the Marian Connell Wellness Series, co-hosting the Wellness Hour on WIOX Roxbury Radio and re-establishing the community ice skating rink in Margaretville. His community involvement also includes being a member of the Watershed Agricultural Council.
Mr. Riedl has also been instrumental in bringing a wellness focus into MCS. The school’s annual 5K Wellness Walk/Run bears his name.
Mr. Riedl also served as president of the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce for six years.
The Keene A. Roadman Hospital Citizen of the Year Award is presented annually to individuals or organizations that have worked diligently in support of the hospital, which is a member of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley®.
