Richard Rolland Sr.
Richard I. Rolland Sr., a resident of Roxbury, died August 16, 2012 at Margaretville Hospital in Margaretville.
Dick was born November 22, 1923 in Johnson City, the son of Jules and Gladys (Legge) Rolland. He married Gloria Iburg in May of 1953 at Vestal.
He was a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation, Region 9 in Binghamton. Dick served with the U.S. Marines during WW II in the Pacific with the 9th Unit.
Dick attended Colgate University. He was always doing engineering projects for many local projects for friends in the Town of Roxbury and for other local groups. He enjoyed golfing,
hunting and skiing. He taught skiing at the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center Ski School and started the ski school at Plattekill Ski Center in Roxbury. He loved being outdoors and enjoying nature.
Dick is survived by his wife, Gloria Rolland; children, Richard Rolland Jr. and Mary Rolland and sisters Ruth Glenister, Bob and his wife Janet Glenister, Althea Glenister and Doris Trevett.
A service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Dick’s memory may be made to the Roxbury Fire Department or the Ambulance Fund of the Roxbury Fire Department.
