RCS students fared well at Olympiad
Close to 300 junior high schools started competition last fall with only the top 38 in the state qualifying for the state finals held last weekend at SUNY at New Paltz. Roxbury finished a respectable 26th including four of the 25 events in the top 10.
Outstanding tournament performances were turned in by Heather Reinshagen and Kristopher Brew with a 19th place in Sumo Bots, Abby Wallace and Rachel Beck with an 11th place in Science Crime Busters, Kristopher Brew and Heather Reinshagen with an eighth place in Magnetic Car, Alexi Boice and Kyle Ciaravino with an eighth place in Environmental Chemistry, Kerrigan Kellerhouse and Liz Davis with a fourth place Medal in Trajectory and Elaine Faison and Heather Reinshagen with a Silver Medal in Elevated Bridge.
Team members can now relax along with the over 8,400 other New York State Science Olympiad competitors from 560 junior high and high school teams across the entire state. Rules for the events for the 2010 season will be available in August when the Roxbury team members will begin their 20th season in Science Olympiad.
The team is coached by Fred Zimmerman, Fred Zerega, Jamie Kellerhouse, Cathy Rappleyea, Al Vigna and Joan Riordan.
