RCS Olympiad Team qualifies for state finals
The drought that has kept the RCS High School Science Olympiad Team away from the state finals since 2004 ended at the College of Saint Rose in Albany on Saturday. The Rockets qualified for their ninth appearance at the state finals with their fifth place overall performance in a field of 18 teams. Only four schools from the regional will advance to the finals. As Niskayuna placed two of their teams in the top five, their second team is not able to attend the finals.
This moved Roxbury into the fourth spot and on to the United States Military Academy at West Point, March 20 and 21.
Roxbury returned home with medals in six of the 21 different events and an additional eight events in the top half of the 18 team field. Over the weeks between now and “States,” the team needs to strengthen their events as the 40 teams at the finals will all have placed fourth or better at their Regional. In addition to the 21 events contested at the Regional, team members will need to add four new events; Egg-O-Naut, Disease Detective, It’s About Time and Junkyard Challenge.
