Pottery demo Saturday at Market

Halcottsville — Robin Bruck-Tanner will be demonstrating how she makes pottery on the potters’ wheel on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.
Robin has been creating and selling pottery in the Catskills since 2003. Robin works primarily on the wheel, enjoying the process as the clay comes alive in her hands and rests finally in a shape that speaks to her sense of balance and functionality.
Currently, Robin has been experimenting with fluted forms. Using a stretched out spring or “wavy wire,” Robin carves away the profile of a thrown vessel and then continues to shape it on the potter’s wheel. This varied landscape creates an interesting surface for the glazes to channel through. This will be the first time that Robin will be demonstrating her craft using the pottery wheel. She will demonstrate fluting as well as other techniques.
This week’s demonstrations are part of a weekly event from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Catskill Artisans’ Guild. For a complete event schedule, visit: www.pfmarket.org.
The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market is held rain or shine. The market is located at the historic Round Barn on Route 30 near the Delaware County hamlet of Halcottsville, in the central Catskill Mountains. The market is five miles north of Margaretville/Arkville and eight miles south of Roxbury.
