Percy E. Newcomb, 87, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany. He was born February 15, 1922, in Prattsville, the son of Osmer and Lena (Albarti) Newcomb. He married Gladys Graham on March 28, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Fleischmanns.
Percy served his country in World War II in the United States Army.
He was employed for 25 years by the New York State Thruway.
After retiring, Percy and Gladys moved from Valatie back to Margaretville.
Percy was a member of the Middletown American Legion Post 216. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed yard sales and fishing.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Terry Shafer; grandson, Terry D. Shafer and wife, Sandy; granddaughter, Tricia D. (Shafer) Dee; five great-grandchildren, Thomas Philip Dee III, Cody Christopher Fronckowiak, Chad Austin Shafer, Skylar Elizabeth Shafer and Ryan Hunter Shafer and his special friend, his cat, “Rascal.”
He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Newcomb, January 23, 1998.
Memorial services will be graveside at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Bedell Cemetery, Fleischmanns, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.
