Open Eye auditions for 'Shortcuts'
Margaretville — Following the popular success of “Summer Shortcuts” in August 2011, The Open Eye Theater producing artistic director Amie Brockway has announced a new program of very short plays to open Thursday August 9, and run Thursday through Sunday for two weekends.
There will be a dozen or so 10-minute plays selected from more than a hundred submissions from all over the US. Some of the selected plays are written by area playwrights.
Brockway said, “With this format we offer a number of playwrights special opportunities to have their works staged, a number of directors a chance to work with those playwrights; a number of actors of all ages have the opportunity to perform, and the audience has an adventurous theater experience.”
On Tuesday evenings in late August and early September, there will be rehearsed readings of new full-length plays, an important step in the development of new dramatic works for the stage.
Auditions for “Summer Shortcuts II,” and the Rehearsed Reading Series will be held at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville, on Friday July 5, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday July 6, 2-4 p.m.
There are more than 30 acting roles to be filled. Male and female performers of all ages (10 – 80+), all types, and all levels of experience are encouraged to come and read from scripts provided. We are also seeking directors and stage managers.
