Onteora Teachers' Association, district reach agreement for new contract
By Jay Braman Jr.
After working into the early hours of Tuesday morning, the negotiating teams for the Onteora School District and the Onteora Teachers’ Association reached agreement over details for a new contract.
“We have a settlement and a contract with the teachers,” said District Superintendent Dr. Leslie Ford.
The agreement was reached against the backdrop of a strike threat issued by the union, which planned to take a strike vote Tuesday.
Ford says that it was business as usual at the school on Tuesday, and added that the contract will be ratified within the next couple of days.
Attorneys advised Ford to not release the details of the agreement until the contract is ratified.
