ONC BOCES administrative offices relocation endorsed
Stamford — Following 15 months of study and research, the Board of Education for the Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES has endorsed a plan that will relocate all services currently operating at the Cyr Center in Stamford to one of the two centers the BOCES currently owns in Milford and Grand Gorge.
If approved by all 19 component school district boards of education, renovation of selected areas in each of the occupational centers would allow the Stamford site to be vacated at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. The BOCES currently leases the Cyr Center from the Catskill Mountain Educational Center.
Under current state statute, the project cannot advance without the unanimous support of the component boards. Each district has the option to either finance their proportionate share of the $2.4 million project cost or to make a single payment from reserves.
A wide range of constituent groups were engaged in this decision, with the project, now to be known as the Administrative Services Relocation Project, receiving the unanimous support of the 19 component district superintendents. Approximately 50 BOCES staff will be affected by the relocation. The BOCES Board debated the project intensely, taking into consideration the impact of vacating the CYR Center. The long-range cost benefit of reducing to two sites is the primary motivation behind the project.
