Mountainside Center joins National Quality Campaign
Mountainside Residential Care Center has joined thousands of long-term care facilities across the country in a voluntary national initiative, a campaign titled Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes. The campaign seeks to accelerate the rate of quality improvement in nursing homes by promoting excellence in care-giving for residents, monitoring key indicators of quality and acknowledging the critical role of staff in providing high quality care.
The Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes campaign identifies eight measurable clinical quality and organizational improvement goals. Mountainside Resi- dential Care Center has chosen to focus its quality improvement goals as follows:
* Reducing high-risk pressure ulcers.
* Measuring nursing staff turnover and developing action plans to improve staff retention.
* Employing “consistent assignment” whereby the same residents are cared for by the same caregivers on at least 85 percent of their shifts.
Mountainside’s Assistant Administrator Philip Mehl said the Advancing Excellence In America’s Nursing Homes campaign fits perfectly with his facility’s philosophy.
“We strive every day to provide the highest quality of care to our residents and we are always working on new ways to promote quality. This campaign allows us to be a part of the broad national effort and signal, through data and measurable accomplishments, that our efforts are paying off for nursing home residents,” he commented.
Mr. Mehl pointed out that this campaign is different from existing national quality initiatives in several respects. He noted that it acknowledges organizational culture elements such as the role of consistent staffing assignments in improving care.
Ed Morache, CEO and Mountainside’s Administrator, pointed out that this campaign is different from existing national quality initiatives in several respects.
“This initiative acknowledges organizational culture elements such as the role of consistent staffing assignments in improving care,” stated Mr. Morache.
