Middletown reassessment project is subject at rescheduled meeting

A public meeting to discuss the Town of Middletown property assessment update has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. at the town hall on Route 28, Margaretville.
The meeting was originally set for March 12, but had to be postponed due to the tragic fire at neighboring Brookside Hardware that left roads closed and many properties without electricity.
Middletown’s assessors have recently begun a three-year reassessment project designed to bring all properties in the township up to 100 percent valuation. Because Middletown properties are currently assessed at about 55 percent of true value, the application of equalization rates can result in significant increases to school and county tax bills.
At the April 2 meeting, an overview of the reassessment project will be provided and community members will be welcome to ask questions about the work. For additional information, call 845 586-4048.
