Highmount — For the first time since Belleayre become part of the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), a Belleayre employee has been awarded the quarterly employee appreciation award. Each quarter, this award is given to one hardworking and dedicated ORDA employee. This quarter’s award recipient is Joanie Merwin, information technology, and technical administrator at Belleayre Mountain.
Joanie started her career at Belleayre Mountain in 1981 as a ticket seller. Over the past 30 years, the development of personal computing, as well as the internet, have become a substantial and very significant part of the ski industry. Joanie quickly displayed her interest in the information technology field. As the technology progressed so did Joanie’s knowledge, understanding and passion to cultivate Belleayre’s network and IT capabilities to where they are today.

Continuing education
Joanie continues to educate herself and others in the emergent field of information technology every day. As management of Belleayre was transitioning from DEC to ORDA, she was eager to work with ORDA staff to make the transition as smooth as possible. Joanie played a fundamental role in working with all of ORDA’s venues to help with their transition from multiple ticketing systems to operating with Siriusware.  Siriusware is a ticketing and admission system that delivers all the essential features required at every point-of-sale in a customizable, integrated innovative solution, for ski areas in particular.
Outside of work, Joanie is passionate about hiking and snowshoeing in the Catskills. She has recently become a member of the Catskill 3,500 Feet Club. Membership in this club requires hiking the 35 Catskill Peaks, which are over 3,500 feet in elevation, and includes mandatory winter hikes. Joanie enjoys working in her gardens and green house. She is an avid motorcycle rider and can often be seen riding with her husband Vinnie. Vinnie and Joanie have two children, Cassie and Lucas ages 25 and 27, respectively.
