MCS students earn recognition at annual academic banquet

Margaretville Central School held its 13th annual Excellence in Academics Banquet on Monday night to recognize the academic achievements of students in grades seven through 12. In addition to honoring the students who appeared on the honor roll, high honor roll and principal’s list, a number of scholarships and awards were presented.
The major award winners were: Karla Nava, University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award; Olivia Todd and Patrick O’Connell, Elmira Key Awards; Jake Brophy, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award; Katie Hanley, George Eastman Young Leaders Award; Tony Lam, The Rensselaer Medal; Katie Rosa and Sam Mendoza, Triple C Awards; Garrett Fairbairn, New York State Comptroller Achievement Award; Garrett Fairbairn, Scholar Recognition Program Award; Caitlin Kohn, Student Sage Award; Olivia Todd, Sage Arts Award; and Jake Brophy, Clarkson University Award.
At Monday’s banquet, 47 students in grades seven through 12 were recognized for being named to the honor roll (84.5 percent to 89.4 percent average) or higher for one or two marking periods, while 34 students were honored for making the honor roll for three consecutive marking periods.
Thirty-eight students were recognized for being named to the high honor roll (89.5 to 94.4 average) for three consecutive marking periods and 14 students were honored for being named to the principal’s list (94.5 percent and higher) for three consecutive marking periods.
