MCS hosts soccer tourney this weekend

Margaretville — The MCS Booster Club will host their sixth annual indoor soccer tournament at Margaretville Central School on Friday evening, March 13 and all day Saturday, March 14.
The tournament will include 44 teams divided into four age groups. This year the tournament is being expanded with more teams in the grades 6-8 bracket, which will be on Friday evening starting at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday the action will begin with the high school boys starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by the high school girls at 12:40 p.m. The tournament will end with the “Old Timers” bracket starting at 5 p.m.
Teams will arrive from Andes, Cherry Valley Springfield, Delhi, Downs-ville, Ellenville, Franklin, Gilboa, Oneonta, Schenevus, South Kortright, Rhinebeck, Roxbury and Walton to compete during the tournament.
Indoor soccer is similar to outdoor, but there are differences. Indoor is played with a heavy ball called a futsal ball. The game is played in a gym using the lines of a basketball court for boundaries. Games are 15 minutes long, with four or five member teams. The game is played at quicker pace, with more passing and scoring giving an exciting game.
The Academy Street entrance to MCS will open at 5 p.m. on Friday evening and 8 a.m. on Saturday with the first games at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge for admission, and the booster club will be selling a grand assortment of refreshments throughout the day.
Tournament sponsors include many local area businesses, led by our Corporate Sponsor Freshtown of Margaretville, along with the Arkville Fire Dept., Coldwell Banker-Timberland Properties, The Flour Patch, Fruitful Furnishings, Jenkins Lawn Service, Mathieson Builders, Margaretville Fire Dept., Margaretville Telephone Co., Oakley’s Pizza, Sluiter Agency, Inc., Tanzer Accounting and Vly Mountain Spring Water.
