Margaretville Mayor Stanton stepping down after six years
After serving as mayor of Margaretville for six years, Bill Stanton has announced that he will not be seeking a fourth term.
The position of mayor will be on the ballot in the village’s March election, as will two seats on the Village of Margaretville Board of Trustees. Trustees Iris Mead and John VanBenschoten will be up for re-election in the March 18 election.
Village residents wishing to run for the position of trustee must file a nominating petition, which can be obtained from the village office and must be filed with the village clerk between Feb. 3 and 10. The only requirements to be a trustee are that the candidate be a United States citizen, be at least 18 years of age, and be a Margaretville resident.
Those seeking more information should contact Karen McMurray, village clerk, at 586-4418.
Margaretville residents wishing to register to vote in the election may do so at the village office on Saturday, March 7 between 12 and 5 p.m.
