Margaretville man charged in kidnap attempt

A Margaretville man was arrested in New Jersey on Thursday after he allegedly tried to kidnap a man he believed was seeing his ex-girlfriend.
Police say Thomas A. Filupeit, 52, attempted to enter the man’s house shortly before 11 p.m. carrying a knife, duct tape, string, and a pillowcase containing plastic handcuffs and cloth. His attempts failed, however, when police arrived at the home before he could enter.
Police placed Filupeit under arrest and charged him with criminal attempted burglary, criminal attempted kidnapping, possession of handcuffs, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. In lieu of $1 million bail, Filupeit is being held at Monmouth County Jail in Freehold Township, N.J.
