Magic roll to 4-0 win in men's soccer league

By Pete Palen
The Margaretville Magic improved their record to 4-0 in The Mine Kill Adult Soccer League last Monday night with a 13-4 victory over Clark’s of Gilboa.
Margaretville got on the scoreboard early and often. The first tally featured a brotherly collaboration as Max Mead slid a through pass to his brother, and former MCS and Cortland State star, Mitch, who fired a shot from the top of the penalty area past the diving Clark’s goalkeeper. A few minutes later, Ryan Pesa headed home an Alex Throssel cross to make the score 2-0. Two more goals by Mitch Mead, one by current MCS Blue Devil stalwart, Josh Smith, and one by Alex Throssell increased the Magic’s halftime lead to 6-1.
The second half built on the confidence and communication of the first. Ball movement built on quick, crisp passes generated a plethora of scoring opportunities for the Magic. Jason Wickham was on target for the Magic, scoring off a pass from Josh Smith. Mitch Mead notched his fourth score of the game, Allen Reed found the back of the net, and Alex Throssell scored his second goal of the match, as did Josh Smith. Ryan Pesa tallied two more times giving him his second- straight, three-goal hat trick match for Margaretville. Tom Vitro made six huge saves in goal for the winners, helping to keep Clark’s at bay, while starting several counter attacks with his outlet passes.
Clark’s played a stronger second half and scored three more times on counter attacks of their own.
The Margaretville Magic is in action tonight against Clark’s at 7 p.m. and again on Monday against Austin’s, also at 7 p.m. All games are played at the Mine Kill Soccer Complex, just east of Grand Gorge on Route 30.
