Lost boy found in Andes woods

An 11-year-old was found unharmed early Sunday after he became lost the previous afternoon in the Town of Andes. The boy, who police did not wish to identify, reportedly left a seasonal residence on Perch Lake Road about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. When the youngster failed to return for dinner around 6 o’clock, his father began an hour-long search. Failing to find his son, the father reported the boy’s disappearance.
A search was commenced utilizing personnel from many area agencies. The boy was located about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, huddled near a tree. Police officials said the youngster was uninjured.
“He went for a walk and got disoriented,” a police official commented.
Assisting with the search process were State Police, Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, personnel from the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, the Delaware County Emergency Services Department, the Roxbury Constable and firefighters from Andes, Margaretville and Grand Gorge.
