Lorraine Mitchell ordained a deacon at Holy Innocents
Halcottsville — Lorraine Anne Mitchell of Queensbury was ordained a Deacon at Holy Innocents Cathedral on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Bishop Francisco Betancourt, FCR was the ordaining bishop. In attendance were Lori’s parents, Doreen and Robert Mitchell, relatives, friends and Holy Innocents parishioners.
In his homily Bishop Betancourt spoke of the significant role of women in the early Christian church. “Both women and men shared the same roles for centuries, women were also ordained to administer all of the sacraments,” Bishop Betancourt said. The Catholic Apostolic Church in North America, has established St. Matthew the Apostle mission in Queensbury where Deacon Lori will serve as pastor.
Deacon Lori is continuing her studies for the priesthood, she will be ordained a priest in the summer of 2013. Father Dante Tarantini served as the master of ceremonies, Carl Pope was acolyte and Heidi Hartman was the director of music.
