Longtime racer is King of the Hill at Plattekill snowmobile event

Roxbury — Ski Plattekill completed their 12th annual snowmobile drag races last weekend with The King of the Hill title won by Logan Gregory riding a Klinger Ski Doo 800. Logan is from Walton and has been racing at Plattekill since the beginning when he was just 10 years old.
The fastest track time of the weekend is owned by Rich Daley with a time of 5.674 seconds. Rich is the owner of Dyno Port Inc, the leading supplier of tuned racing parts for professional snowmobiles. This was his first time racing at Plattekill.
The highlight of the weekend was watching 11-year-old Zac Willis of Craryville win top three in many categories on sleds up to 800 ccs. He is a very talented racer and should prove to become one of the best racers in the east, following in the footsteps of current local racers such as Steve Ryder and Logan Gregory who both started racing big bore machines here at Plattekill at just 10 years of age.
The youngest racers competed in the junior 120 cc class and the field was filled with local up and coming racers including Collin Garofolo, Nicholas and Matthew Vajtay of Roxbury and Tucker Hohn of Margaretville. All the kids who raced won a trophy for their participation.
The highlight of the weekend was the distribution of sponsor-donated prizes during the awards ceremony raffle, where both racers and spectators had a chance to win one of many prizes totaling $6,000, including riding jackets, helmets and tools. Especially generous were the cash sponsorships donated by H. Peters, Mobile Services, Ryder’s Sled Shop and Ian Mayo Racing.
There were a few local women who also raced. More and more women are getting into the racing excitement and prove they can keep up with the big boys racing their big boy toys. Local girls included Danyelle Greene and Alexis Peters of Roxbury who raced in the 600 to 900 cc categories.
Young local racers competing in the big categories and doing very well were Garret Hinkley of Roxbury, competing in 600 and 700 classes and taking a 3rd and a 2nd in the 600 class races, Eugene Cronk, racing in the 800 and 900 cats, and John Bubach Jr. racing to a second place victory in the ATV class on his KTM 250 fully studded dirt bike.
One of the oldest riders to compete, an antique himself in the antique category, and racing to victory was Darrell Slater of Roxbury winning the Antique 340 Class on Saturday.
Sponsors were Arctic Adventures in Rosendale, Northern Eagle Beverages in Oneonta, Mobile Services in Roxbury, Jere’s Repair in Maplecrest, H. Peters Plumbing and Heating in Roxbury, Klinger Power Sports in Walton, Ian Mayo Racing in Coeymanns Hollow, Ryder’s Sled Shop in Roscoe, Red’s Auto Supply in Prattsville and Rusty Palmer in Honesdale, Pa.
