Law Day 50th anniversary will be marked this week

The Delaware County Bar Association has planned a series of activities to observe the 50th anniversary of Law Day USA on May 1.
The main event of the annual celebration will be a dinner for the bench and bar at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at the “Café on the Green” (formerly Shankzters) Restaurant in Delhi.
For 50 years, May 1 has been set aside to celebrate Law Day throughout the country. The 2008 theme is “The Rule of Law: Foundation for Communities of Opportunity and Equity.” Law Day 2008 will explore the meaning of the rule of law, fostering public understanding of the rule of law through discussion on its role in society and how it is essential in sustaining a free society.
In keeping with local Law Day custom, 250 pocket copies of the United States Constitution are being distributed to Delaware County Schools, together with Law Day information.
In other Law Day activities, members of the Delaware County Bar Association are available to speak on legal issues or law-related careers to any Delaware County School, group or organization upon request. Anyone interested in scheduling a member of the Delaware County Bar Association to speak to their school, group or organization, should contact Law Day Chairman, Leonard E. Sienko Jr. at 607 637-5400.
