Lady Rockets lack early scoring punch
The Roxbury girls’ soccer team is searching for an offensive booster to get its rockets fueled. Roxbury struggled finding the nets and dropped their first two Mayor’s Cup contests. The Rockets’ offense scored only one goal in two games.
Sophomore Sarah Haight was unstoppable as Davenport blasted the Rockets 5-1 in the Roxbury opener. Haight, who scored 23 goals during her freshman season, netted four and assisted on her team’s final score in opening round Cup play. Haight netted a penalty kick just over five minutes into the contest, then rebounded an Emily Whipple missed strike two minutes later for a score. The sophomore striker converted a Whipple cross in the second half and used a re-start from outside the box for her final goal.
A Haight pass set-up Bailee Hymer for Davenport’s final score.
Bailey O’Donnell scored Roxbury’s first goal of the season. O’Donnell used a cross from Christina Chiarappa to score.
