Lady Blue Devils win; Rockets split

By John Bernhardt
Coming together is a beginning and keeping together is making progress. That’s been the story of the Margaretville girls’ soccer team this fall. The Blue Devils have settled into the pattern of more competitive play that they used to upend Stamford to earn their first Delaware League win, 1-0, over Stamford on Tuesday. The victory improves Margaretville’s overall record to 2-4-1.
Each team scored single goals in the first half with Ithay Silva finding the nets for Margaretville and Kim Freer for Stamford. The Margaretville defense worked hard, limiting Freer, one of the premiere goal scorers in the DL, to a single score.
The Blue Devils’ Elia Tanzer nabbed the game winner with 12:49 left to play. Caro Bruno controlled the ball towards the center of the box then toed a pass down the left lane that Tanzer ran down. The speedy Blue Devil striker lifted a shot to just inside the far pole for the difference maker.
Shannon Fairbairn had seven saves for Margaretville. The Blue Devils host Roxbury on Thursday afternoon.
