Kenneth J. Kurtz, 74, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie as a result of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born August 27, 1934 in Shandaken, son of the late Karl and Esther Bennett Kurtz.
He was a native and lifelong area resident who was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, and had won many awards for his suggestions at work. He was a former member of the Shandaken-Allaben Hose Company. He enjoyed both vegetable gardening and masonry work. He was a skilled auto mechanic. He retired in 1990 after 35 years of service as a circuit designer for IBM in Kingston.
Surviving are a brother, Fred of Hurley; a sister, Kathryn Wygant of New Windsor; six nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Clarence in 1999.
A graveside service will be on Friday, April 24 at 12 p.m. at the Oliverea Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia.
