He’s an ambassador of golf, a local head-golf professional who has spent a lifetime associated with the game. Gordie Faulkner bubbles with enthusiasm when he talks about the sport he loves. Faulkner will bring that enthusiasm and energy to a junior golf program to be held in July at the Meadows Golf Center in Margaretville.

Faulkner is the driving force of Catskill Mountain Junior Golf Inc. The non-profit entity will sponsor junior golf programs at two locations, the Meadows in Margaretville and the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in Franklin. “This is magic stuff where youngsters can learn golf basics they can use playing a sport for the rest of their lives,” Faulkner explained.

The dual junior golf program is modeled after a similar effort Faulkner started in Stamford in 2004. A comprehensive instructional program teaches the basics of golf and builds a strong playing foundation in a fun, easy to learn environment. Boys and girls between the ages of five and 17 are eligible to participate.
